Victor Yaw Asante is a seasoned executive with nearly three decades of leadership in corporate and investment banking, spanning multinational institutions and regional markets across Africa. As the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Ghana Limited since 2019, he is responsible for the strategic direction, operational performance, and market growth of a bank capitalized at over US$100 million with more than US$300 million in assets under management. Under his leadership, FBNBank Ghana continues to strengthen its position as a key player in Ghana’s financial sector, with 30 branches and a workforce exceeding 1000 professionals.
Victor is an integral member of the broader FirstBank Group leadership team, contributing to the group’s objectives across all subsidiaries. His commitment to corporate governance and nation-building is reflected in concurrent positions, including serving on the Board of Trustees of the Venture Capital Trust Fund and the Advisory Board of Sarpong Capital. He is also the Immediate Past District Governor of Rotary International District 9102, overseeing humanitarian programs across Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Niger.
Prior to his current role, he served as Head of Commercial, Corporate, and Institutional Banking at First National Bank Ghana, where he managed more than 80 percent of the bank’s revenue-generating business and played a pivotal role in embedding the bank within the Ghanaian financial market. Earlier, he led client coverage and corporate origination teams at FirstRand Group and held a variety of senior roles across Standard Chartered Bank’s operations in Ghana, Botswana, and West Africa. These included leadership positions in structured trade finance, transaction banking, and commodity client coverage, where he consistently delivered strong financial performance and cross-border deal execution.
Victor began his banking career at Merchant Bank Ghana Limited (now Universal Merchant Bank), progressing from relationship management to corporate leadership roles. He also held leadership roles in Unilever Ghana, where he led key distributor management and played a central role in nationwide distribution strategy and outlet mapping for fast-moving consumer goods.
Academically, Victor holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture with a specialization in Agricultural Economics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and an MBA in Marketing from the University of Ghana Business School. He is a Chartered Marketer and Full Member of both the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (Ghana), and an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana.
