Alexander Owusu-Acheampong is an accomplished investment and finance professional with over a decade of hands-on experience in capital markets, fund management, and corporate financial strategy. He currently serves as the Head of Investments at the Venture Capital Trust Fund (VCTF), where he leads the institution’s investment activities, oversees partnerships with fund managers, and ensures that all investment operations align with sustainability principles and regulatory frameworks.
Over the course of his career, Alexander has managed investment portfolios exceeding USD 300 million, spanning collective investment schemes, pension funds, and diversified money and capital market assets. He brings deep expertise in portfolio construction, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance, and is widely recognized within Ghana’s financial services ecosystem for his strategic insights and commitment to transparency.
Alexander began his career in development finance, playing a significant role in shaping Ghana’s SME policy environment. While at the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), he contributed to the formulation of the SME Charter of Ghana, supported the AGI Business Barometer Survey, and participated in the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Survey, offering data-driven perspectives on the country’s economic performance.
Before joining VCTF, Alexander held progressive leadership roles within the capital markets industry, advancing from SME Advisor to Head of Asset Management, and ultimately to Associate Executive Director (Operations). In these roles, he was instrumental in designing fund strategies, managing high-performing investment teams, and enhancing operational and compliance systems.
Complementing his professional experience, Alexander is also an engaged academic. He has served as a lecturer at the University of Essex Business School in the UK, where he taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in financial analysis and management accounting. His research interests focus on corporate governance, financial sustainability, and investment strategies in emerging markets.
Alexander is awaiting the award of a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Essex, with a specialization in corporate governance and financial sustainability. He also holds an MSc in International Business and Finance from the University of Aberdeen, an MBA in Marketing from Sikkim Manipal University, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Cape Coast.
In recognition of his outstanding leadership in fund management, he was named Fund Manager of the Year at the 2015 Securities Industry Awards. Alexander is deeply passionate about governance reform, inclusive finance, and sustainable development. His work continues to support economic transformation and private sector growth, particularly across Ghana and the wider African continent.
