Michael Abbey is a lawyer and economic policy expert with a wealth of experience in international trade and investment law. With over 15 years in development work, economic policy, political economy, energy policy, human security, and strategic leadership, he has built a career at the intersection of law, governance, and economic transformation.
Before assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer at the Venture Capital Trust Fund (VCTF), Mr. Abbey served as a Programmes Coordinator at Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES Ghana), where he successfully managed international funding for diverse programs. His efforts played a pivotal role in shaping economic policy frameworks, advancing youth development initiatives, and championing gender justice advocacy.
Beyond his professional career, he has been deeply involved in national policy formulation, contributing to Ghana’s economic development strategies. He served on the NDC Manifesto Committee in 2016, 2020, and 2024, and was the Convener for the Finance and Economy Working Group of the 2024 Manifesto Processes, where he helped shape key economic policy strategies.
Academically, Mr. Abbey holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Trade Law from the University of Turin, Italy. He also earned two Master of Arts (MA) degrees in Migration Studies and Public Affairs from the University of Ghana, Legon. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from GIMPA, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a Qualifying Certificate in Law from the Ghana School of Law, Makola.
